Current decisions on large-scale design and operation of water treatment technologies are based on expertise and simple steady state tools. Moreover, a lot of experimental data are continuously collected at plants in operation but underused. With a decision support tool possible alternative treatment configurations, dynamic conditions and uncertainties can be simulated. As a first unit process, reverse osmosis (RO) is considered. Based on the solution-diffusion model to describe membrane transport, a steady state model is being built.
